Having Healthy Nails

by Jen Hopkins

Ever since we were young, we have been taught that we must keep our hands and nail clean. And as we grow older, this fact has been emphasized by the advertisements we see in the television. Unfortunately, nail care is still one of those practices that are neglected in our daily hygiene.

Well groomed hands and nails would often indicate that you take care of yourself and have good proper hygiene. People would take notice of this and people would be more willing to shake your hands if they see that it's well groomed. Now what does proper nail care involve? You don't have to be very meticulous when dealing with your nails.

A properly cut and polished should get you most of the week but if you want to really take care of your nails there are nail products that you can try out or you can simply get a manicure every week or twice a month depending on how much dirt your nails are exposed to.

When dealing with proper nail care and nail files, not everything you see actors in movies do you actually follow. There is a right and wrong way to file your nails. Proper filing would result to proper nail growth and prevent damage. Don't file like your trying to file metal or some other sharp object. File from the corner of your nail to the center while following the groves.

There are various products that are well suited for nail care. These can help you maintain your hands and nails. These include nail enhancers, strengtheners and whiteners. Some are born with brittle nails so you have to keep your nails hydrated to strengthen them. Also, keep the nails short so as to prevent them from breaking.

Some people prefer to polish their nails while others don't. Polishing your nails is not actually just done for aesthetic purposes. Polished nails look good and healthy but they don't only look good they help maintain your nails clean. The prevent dirt and dust from penetrating your nails. If you are girl nail polish is not really a problem, but guys can use clear nail polish for obvious reasons. Make sure your hands and nails are dry before applying any polish so that they can work best and stay on longer.
